Monsal Trail

The Monsal Trail is a walking/riding trail that goes through some of the Peak Districts most spectacular limestone dales. It runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8.5 miles from Blackwell Mill (near Buxton) and Bakewell.

The route passes near Litton Mill and from there you either walk/ride towards Buxton or in the opposite direction to Bakewell. You can access the Monsal Trail from the bridge at Litton Mill near Riverview Cottage.

There are two bicycle hire businesses on the Monsal Trail, as well as pubs and cafes in Millers Dale, Monsal Head, Great Longstone and Hassop Station.

As well as Litton Mill, the highlights of the trail are the viaducts, tunnels, Cressbrook Mill, Lime Kilns, Water-cum-Jolly Dale, Hassop Station and Bakewell. There are also a variety of side trails and alternate walking routes.
